About the Commission - Bios
Geoff Segal is Senior Vice President of Government Relations for Macquarie Capital (USA). Over the course of his career in public policy, he has served as an advisor to former Florida Governor Jeb Bush’s Center for Efficient Government, to South Carolina Governor Mike Sanford, and to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels, where he primarily worked with the Government Efficiency and Financial Planning Group inside the Office of Management and Budget. Recently, Mr. Segal was appointed to the Commonwealth Competition Council by House Speaker William Howell and was subsequently elected Vice-Chairman.
Before joining Macquarie in October 2007, Mr. Segal worked at the Reason Foundation for seven years. At Reason, he was Director of Privatization and Government Reform, overseeing the research center on privatization and public-private partnerships and conducting original research and political outreach.
Mr. Segal has worked closely with legislators in two dozen states in efforts to improve government performance and enhance accountability in government programs. Specific initiatives include: testifying to the United States Senate and numerous state legislatures and agencies; writing dozens of articles for leading publications including the Atlanta Journal Constitution, New York Sun, Houston Chronicle, Indianapolis Star, and Investor’s Business Daily; and being a frequent guest on television and radio, appearing on Fox News Channel’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” and CNBC’s “Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo,” “Power Lunch,” and “Kudlow and Company.”
Currently, Mr. Segal coordinates and manages Macquarie Capital (USA)’s public affairs and government relations programs, including monitoring and actively responding to critical legislative, public relations, and regulatory issues at local, state, and federal levels.
Mr. Segal provides direction, management, and administration of Macquarie Capital’s government relations activities and programs in the U.S. He helps set strategic direction and makes recommendations on policy matters affecting Macquarie Capital’s businesses. He also provides counsel to senior Macquarie Group staff on political and policy affairs and develops and executes strategies for outreach and education on matters or concerns relevant to Macquarie Group businesses.
Mr. Segal serves on the Commerce and Insurance Task Force at the American Legislative Exchange Council and on the P3s Study Committee at the National Conference of State Legislatures.
He is based in Washington, D.C.
